Th search for a new site created in sharepoint 2007 is not working. If I search any list item or an image uploaded it does not show in the search list. Do I have to set any 'rule' for the site, if so i have create one for a site but it is not working.

Can you search for documentation or pages within the site? Are you using an SQL back end? Have you looked into the logs of MOSS or the Server to ensure everything is working properly?

I installed the standalone WSS V3 and set up a collection. It is using the SQL 2005 Express to house the data.
All seems fine but when I add in some Word documents the search doesn't work quite right.
If I have the word "frustrates" in the Word document and do a search on "frustrates" it gives me a hit on that document.
But if I search on "frustrate" it doesn't give a hit.
So basically it isn't doing a substring search.
Any ideas?

So if you go into a SP installation you have created you can do a substring search no problem?
I read that article you sent but nothing in there but thanks for suggesting it.
I used the default settings for search so it shouldn't be something I did that is messing things up.

I thought about this more as it is driving me nuts.
I assume the search is just a basic LIKE query done in MSSQL.
I did the standalone install where it puts MS SQL 2005 Express on the server and uses that.
Could Express not support LIKE commands fully?

I forgot to mention I am using the Trial version in case that has limitations on it.

The term they use in MOSS for substring searching is stemming. By default it is turned off out of the box.
You can turn this on by going to the Search Results Web Part, and then Options and turn on this feature which is called “Enable Search Term Stemming”.
