I have 2 users out of many that can no longer open documents in Sharepoint. It hangs trying to open any document in any site either directly from the sites or directly from the folder (Network Places). The user logged into another PC and was able to open so it is a machine issue. They are able to upload a document to the site but cannot open the document after it is uploaded. The document from the source location opens fine. Nothing new was installed on the PCs prior to this happening. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi - Thank you for visiting our boards! Regarding your issue, since it's a machine specific issue it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot. Below are a few things that might help and also a few questions to help narrow it down: - Right click and try to download the file. View the file on the machine having issues. Does the file download and open fine?
- Compare the non working machine to a working machine. Check things like IE settings, machine settings, etc...
- Have you looked at the server's event viewer to see if there isn't anything being logged to help solve the problem?
What actually happens when when the non working machine trys to view a file? Any error messages, time out messages, etc...?

Jay Thanks for responding so quickly. There are no error messages. It does not even start to load the document, it just hangs and the process has to be terminated. One of the users started working yesterday afternoon. She reboot again, for the 4th time and it worked. Still checking on the other user... will try your suggestions. Thanks!

We seem to be having the same problem. Clients coming to thier portal (in our DMZ) are hanging when the try to open any attachments, files, docs etc. We did find out that sometimes there was a separate window popping up behind the portal window requesting login authentication again. Users couldn't see this 'login' window, and would think that the portal had stalled, hung, quit working - whatever and either closed their browser or rebooted their whole box. We found that if they logged in, then all was well and they coukld continue on.....but this was not always the case. Some would not be able to continue, some never got the pop up....etc.
Any ideas....
BTW we are SPS 2003 on Windows 2003. This is the only instance of a client having this difficulty out of about 30. We have looked at their firewall rules and ours.....so again I ask...any thoughts

I am having one problem in Sharepoint portal server 2003. Whenever users are tryinh to open and edit an excel file, the time taken for opening the excel file is too long. It was working normally but this problem started occuring few days back. Can anyone suggest what could be the root cause for this slowness.
