Hi, I hope someone can help. I've seen similar queries to mine on other forums and sites and I don't think i've yet seen a definitive answer. You've probably heard this before, but, I set up SPS 2003 and created several sites (as proof of concept for a wider roll-out) - and everything was working nicely. I then left it alone for some weeks and have recently started working with it again, and I'm getting authentication errors with the Main portal site - I can still log in to the individual sites I created, but not "Sites-Home". (Both the user accounts I'm using are domain admins by the way). I can get to the SPS Admin console, and can adjust security at the portal level (I can add both the users to the Portal admins and Site Collection owners groups) but when I try to change settings from within the Site Settings - "Manage Security and additional settings" I get the "Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource." I've tried with anonymous access enabled and disabled, and windows authentication and basic authentication, and nothing seems to work. Can anyone shed any light for me? cheers, Steve.

This might sound like a cheezy answer but did you try bouncing the box (restart)?
Have you verified that the proper service accounts and machine accounts have the correct permissions both at the file level and IIS level?
