Sr. Consultant – SharePoint / Enterprise Portals
JOB ID: 200801
Microsoft Services is looking for Senior Consultants who have a mix of advanced technology and strategic business acumen. The role requires both broad and deep technology knowledge and the ability to architect a solution by mapping a customer’s business problem to an end-to-end technology solution. Demonstrated ability to engage in senior level technology decision maker discussions related to agility, business value, and technology is also a must. Senior Consultants manage the complete lifecycle of large and complex projects. They have a passion for the customer which is demonstrated through professionalism and striving for excellence in all aspects of the customer experience.
The Senior Consultant applies advanced analysis skills (design patterns, UML, etc.) and experience in principals of software design to define appropriate customer solutions. To be credible he or she must have current and deep experience with implementation of large .NET and/or competitive technology software systems. Senior Consultants are expected to maintain effective product group relationships. Understanding of competitive technology enables the Senior Consultant to properly assess feasibility of migrating customer solutions from, and/or integrating with customer solutions hosted on, non-Microsoft platforms. Advanced domain knowledge in one or more vertical industry is also an asset.
Required Technical Skills:
The Senior Consultant helps customer account teams identify, pursue and close strategic business development opportunities while continually driving add-on business within existing projects. To accomplish this, Senior Consultants must be effective in fostering executive level relationships. They also play a key role in employing and developing partners as part of the overall Microsoft services delivery model. When asked, senior consultants help translate business requirements into technology requirements for inclusion in contracts and/or statements of work (SOW).
The Senior Consultant must have proven experience managing projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing multi-phase/multi-dimensional/multi-resource projects to conclusion while maintaining high customer satisfaction. The role requires an individual who is resourceful, confident under pressure, and has demonstrated skill in both crisis management and expectation management.
The successful candidate will have a BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience combined with a minimum of 8 years relevant working experience including expertise in enterprise architecture as well as infrastructure deployment and/or distributed system implementation.
Frequent weekday travel to customer sites is an integral part of this role, as are high levels of recognition and visibility. While a key priority of our engagement process is to staff projects with local consultants, the possibility of significant travel is a reality of our business. Travel can be as high as 70%, though fewer than 20% of our Consultants are traveling at any point in time, with the average out-of-town assignment lasting 4-6 weeks in duration. Consultants with broader skill sets are more likely to be engaged locally. Where possible, our travel policy encourages a schedule whereby Consultants are away for three nights, work four days on-site, and then work the fifth day from their home location. Out-of-town work schedules are typically driven by customer need, however, and may require five full days on-site. We are always supportive of the consultant being home on the weekend.
