I have a user who has Contribute permissions to a library, which is exactly the same access as everyone else on her team, but when she opens any document in SP to edit, it always opens as "read-only". She showed me at her desk and I was able to verify that although she has access to view docs in the library, she only has read access to the docs. It is the same no matter how the doc was opened (Explorer View, Actions> Open in Windows Explorer, Actions> Edit in Microsoft xxx) or whether or not the doc was checked out.
I also checked with the Network team to verify that she belongs to the correct domain groups. I searched all over the web to find any similar issues and I have not been able to come across any solutions. This issue is only occurring with this single user. Please advise.

Instead of directly clicking on the document in the document library try using the 'Edit in Microsoft Word' in the drop down for the specific document. That should take care of the 'Read-Only' message when 'Viewing' a document.
