Running MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. MOSS has had SP1 applied as well as the infrastructure updates. Domain is Small Business Server. MOSS server is set up as an Application Server, and is a member server of the domain. I am using MS's several hundred page doc on install and setup (pages 144-154), and also a paper written by Steve Smith, MVP-SharePoint Server, "How to configure Incoming Email Enabled Libraries in MOSS2007 RTM using Exchange 2003 in and Active Directory Domain".
I flattened my server, re-formatted it and built it up from scratch with minimal apps on it. Upddated it with WSUS 3.0 and then Microsoft Update and it is fully patched.
I have started the services (all - single server, but I chose Complete
during setup to allow for adding another server to the farm), web
application, etc. Created a dummy Document Library and mail-enabled it. I continue to get "Error in the application" every time I click OK on this step. Nothing in the Event logs on either server. Rather than continue to pull out my hair, I thought I'd list everything I've done in hopes someone can help me figure out what's wrong.
DC: SBS 2003 Premium with Exchange 2003, ISA 2004. MOSS server: Windows Server 2003 R2 with SQL Server 2005 SP2.
MOSS Server: I have set it up as both an Application and Email server using Server Management. The server name is "wct-sharepoint", and the DNS suffix is "whooper.local", so the FQDN is "wct-sharepoint.whooper.local". Permissions on c:\inetpub\mailroot\drop for the SP Timer acct and App Pool acct are set to Modify (left Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, Write checked - just as I found them). All services for MOSS are started.
One web application - "SharePoint - 80 (Administration site host)" using the default SSP - "SSP-1st". Incoming Email Settings: AD OU -
OU=MOSS,DC=whooper,DC=local; SMTP - wct-sharepoint.whooper.local. "Yes" to using SP DMS to create distr. groups and contacts. The only email server allowed in is my DC - 192.168.16.2. My dummy Doc Library is named "fanmail". It's emails settings are for email address of
fanmail@wct-sharepoint.whooper.local. In IIS Manager, the default SMTP server properties has Realay Restrictions set to "All except the list below", which is blank. SMTP service has been started.
DC: Exchange Server Manager (ESM); I created an SMTP Connector, using DNS for routing and the Exchange server as the Bridgehead. In Address Space, I added "SMTP wct-sharepoint.whooper.local 10", connector type - Entire Orgnization. Outbound security set to Anonymous. ADUC - I created an OU named MOSS and delegated control to the App Pool acct. As the instructions weren't clear I added the SP Timer acct and App Pool acct with Modify permission to c:\inetpub\mailroot\drop. I ensure the App Pool acct has
Create, Delete, and Manage User Accounts permission on the container. In DNS - Forward Lookup Zone, I ensured there was an A record for the MOSS server and created an MX record - FQDN is wct-sharepoint.whooper.local, priority is 20, and the MOSS server has read and write permissions.
Many thanks in advance!!
