can't do a backup

Running MOSS 2007 Enterprise on Windows Server 2003 Std. R2 - all fully
patched and with all SP's.

I did a complete reinstallation last night with minimal provisioning. Today
I tried to do a Backup to a share on the same server (as a test) and
immediately got an error in the Application log:

I don't understand. I ensured that the MOSS admin account has Full Control
to the destination folder. What am I missing?
