I did a clean reinstall of MOSS on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Std. box a few weeks ago and let it sit so I could see if any errors cropped up in the Event logs. I have several; this one is from the Security log:
Event Type: Failure Audit Event Source: Security Event Category: Logon/Logoff Event ID: 529 Date: 1/7/2009 Time: 9:42:00 AM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: WCT-SHAREPOINT Description: Logon Failure: Reason: Unknown user name or bad password User Name: Domain: Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: Authz Authentication Package: Kerberos Workstation Name: WCT-SHAREPOINT Caller User Name: SQL2005 Caller Domain: WHOOPER Caller Logon ID: (0x0,0x17671) Caller Process ID: 2028 Transited Services: - Source Network Address: - Source Port: - =================== Caller Process ID 2028 is sqlservr.exe, but I don't know what to do. I reset the password on the DC, so .... what am I missing? It seems like your system is trying to use kerberos to authenticate. Have you configured your system to use kerberos? If not change type.
