I have a multi-tier MOSS implementation with 1 web server, 1 app server and 1 data server connected to a SAN.
We performed a complete install using the wizard for the initial application server and an additional Web Front End install for the Web Front End server (in that order). We can login to the Central Admin and SSP sites on the app server but after creating the web application for the port 80 site and creating an associated site collection, I can't login (despite my ID having local Admin permissions, Site Collection Administrator permissions and Farm Administrator permissions).
The Event Log looks clean. We used a number of service IDs for accessing the content database, search, mysites, admin, SQL and SSP. I'm guessing thats where the problem is - just not sure which service ID is referenced during initial login to the default site.
For what it's worth, I noticed that when trying to access the web front end server on the default port by IP address, it redirects me to the app server for login. If I access it by server name or FQDN, it doesn't redirect. Unfortunately, neither server will authenticate my ID.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if it will help but if you can login to the local box (app server) and access IIS make sure the default web site is disabled. And then check properties on other sites and make sure spn account is associated with site.
Hope it helps
