This maybe a dumb question

So I have looked all over for the answer to this one but can't seem to find the answer I am looking for. So here goes, hopefully someone on here can help me out.

Is it possible to publish (produce) a live open to the public website with sharepoint? Basically I want to know can I run my public website though sharepoint but not have people log in when they go to our site. They would however have to log in as they go deeper to say the staffs section within the site.

You can make your site visible to external users either on a hosted solution or based on your internal environment. You'd basically secure all the information that you don't want anonymous users to access. This type of security can be handled at the site or list level.
