I need some help to get our first SharePoint site live on the internet. Ideally i would like a link to some documentation on how to setup the internet anonymous site, but maybe you can detect what I've done wrong and get me over this sticking point. My goal is to create a publishing site with authentication required for the intranet site and anonymous access for the internet site. Everything works except that when I browse to the internet site, I get prompted for credentials.
I have a SharePoint publishing site created at servername:2010 with no host header field entry. I am using SQLServer on a separate server and active directory on a third server. This site will serve as our intranet site for registered users. So far, so good.
Next I want to extend the website so that we have an anonymous internet site. I extend the servername:2010 site creating a new site at servername:2011. I choose the public loadbalanced url (i.e. sitename.com). For now I leave allow anonymous set to no. I set the zone to internet.
Next, I create host file entry for sitename.com and use Alternate Access Mapping in Central Admin to create a new intenal url for the internet zone.
Next I can go into Central Admin and set the internet site to run as anonymous and then go to the new 2011 site (accessed by sitename.com) and turn on anonymous access for the whole site. Finally, I go back to the internet zone in central admin and turn off Integrated Security.
This should do the trick, right? But, if I go to the intranet site, It let's me in and recognizes me, but when I go to the anonymous site, I get prompted for credentials before it will let me in. I am set as the site administrator.
It sounds like the anonymous user doesn't have rights to something.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
