Scenario: We have a large in-house business application is developed using Power Builder (PB) with Oracle DB back end.. We are planning to migrate from Power Builder to Microsoft .NET platform. Our Power Builder application has heavy data entry screens transaction screens (OLTP) that are used by our employees in a LAN environment – currently a Power Builder application. Our future need is to ensure our customers can review their information via a customer portal and also have a collaborative environment. We are also planning to have a document library. Proposed Solution: For the above scenario, we are planning to replace the PowerBuilder forms/screens to a Windows Forms/screens. For the rest of the application, we are planning to have it on SharePoint. (Customer portal and Document management) Questions: 1. Can we use SharePoint for both Intranet (rich UI/transaction screens), Extranet, Internet development? 2. Does it make sense to use SharePoint for the OLTP part of the app as well? OR should we keep that outside the share point and develop it using Windows Forms & WPF? 3. Is it possible to call a Windows application from SharePoint (the reason for asking is that we would like to ideally have all the data entry, customer portal and document management as an integrated solution?) Please advice. Thank You
